LifeLinks Upper Room

A 10-day Prayer Journey

A Call to Network-Wide Prayer

In the video I give a brief explanation of an exciting prayer initiative for our network to engage in. This is a challenging time but also one where we believe the Holy Spirit is calling us to prepare our hearts and lives for the season ahead.

As explained in the video above by Ian Byrd, Apostolic Team Leader,  “Like the disciples of old, we are joining together as a network to pray for a fresh outpouring of His Holy Spirit upon us, our churches, and nations!

DAY ONE

Welcome to the “Upper Room”!
Well, it’s time to ascend to the “Upper Room” together and, during the next 10 days, wait expectantly as a network for His work in our hearts and a fresh outpouring of His Holy Spirit upon us, our churches, and nations!
BEGIN PRAYER JOURNEY

Day 1: The Spirit With Us Forever

…He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever…He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17 (NKJV)

Jesus promised the presence of God would always be with us. He explicitly said we were to remain in Him and that He would remain in us (John 15:4).
He is talking about the indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit. His life in us is inextricably linked with this indwelling as the Holy Spirit desires to encourage us each hour of the day.

Christ is in our hearts – a mighty living force, stirring, enlightening and filling us. When we seek the presence of God each day, we receive new power to influence and bless others.

ACTION & PRAYER STEPS

ACTION:

  • Ask the Lord to baptize you afresh with His Holy Spirit.
  • Yield yourself to the Holy Spirit, depending on Him to complete the important work of making the living presence of Christ in you a reality (see below for specific prayer points to help you align your heart with His).

PRAYER: Thank You Lord, that Your Spirit encourages me to seek Your presence. Thank You that You are my source of power. I worship You in Your glory.

PRAYER POINTS:

Personal Renewal & Preparation

  • Psalm 24:3-6 – “Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, . . .”
  • Psalm 51:10 – “…..Create in me a clean heart Oh God and renew a steadfast spirit within me ….”
  • II Chronicles 7:15 – “If my people….will humble themselves . . . and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (NKJV)

During these ten days spend some time considering your life. Ask the Lord to bring to mind anything that may be hindering your walk with Him. Any unconfessed sin/activity or unforgiveness that may be hindering your connection with Him. Be open to the challenge of the Holy Spirit and doing some spiritual work with Jesus.

This may bring you to a place of repentance before God. It could also lead you to a place of healing in your mind, heart or relationships. Ask the Lord to press in. Ask Him for his heart and to increase your desire to meet with Him often in these ten days.

COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Pray for all leaders that they would have wisdom and discernment during this season – those in government that they can effectively guide us; those leading businesses that they can properly steward their companies and employees in difficult economic times; those shepherding churches and caring for people; for parents to have wisdom as they lead their families.
  • Pray that God would block the effect of the virus over us as a LifeLinks community.
  • Pray against the demoralizing effects of isolation.

Day 2: The Spirit of His Son

And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father”! Galatians 4:6 (NKJV)

The Spirit that dwells in the child of God is the same Spirit that is in Christ Jesus. He teaches us to know the Father’s love and to respond with childlike love and obedience. As He was in Christ, so He is in us, the Spirit of Sonship expressing itself in a life of prayer. The Holy Spirit will manifest the life of Christ in us. The Spirit forms and manifests in us the mind and disposition of the Saviour. The Spirit also equips us for God’s service.

As the Spirit that sanctifies, He will reveal Christ to us as our sanctification. He will enable us to overcome the world and its entanglements. He will fill us with love for God’s people; for those who dislike or ignore us and with love for those that do not yet know Christ, so that we will pray for them and be ready to help them.

ACTION & PRAYER STEPS

ACTION:

  • Spend time with the Lord.
  • Allow Him to fill your heart with confident expectation about what the Spirit can do through and in you.
  • Meditate on the wondrous truth that you are a child of God – loved and affirmed by the Father.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord, that Your Spirit encourages me to seek Your presence. Thank You that You are my Father and the source of my power. I worship You in Your glory.

PRAYER POINTS:
Personal Renewal & Preparation

  • Hebrews 12:1-2 – “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
  • Hosea 6:1 – “Come, and let us return to the Lord; . . .”
  • Hosea 10:12b – “Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the Lord, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.” (NKJV)

Continue reflecting on your life in light of the questions posed yesterday.

In addition, consider your priorities. Is every area submitted to the Lordship of Jesus Christ? Seek God regarding: Family, Business, Relationships, Recreation & Hobbies, etc. Are you obeying God in these areas or are you out of balance in any way?

COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Pray that when we relax the restrictions that there would be minimal escalations of infections.
  • Pray that we will be able to go through all re-opening of businesses etc. without having to reverse back to lock down.

Day 3: Bought at a Price

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God with your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV)

Your body is God’s temple. As such, you are not your own, you do not have the right to do as you please. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God’s holiness; He comes to make us holy. God has absolute right over me. He expects me each morning to say, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:10.

ACTION & PRAYER STEPS

ACTION:

  • Take time each day to renew the bond between you and God and obey the prompting of the voice of the Holy Spirit within you.
  • Keep your body as the temple of God from which adoration and praise to God shall continuously rise.

PRAYER: Lord, I acknowledge that my body is Your temple. Strengthen me, that I may seek in all things to please and obey You.

  • Jeremiah 5:24-25 – “. . . Let us now fear the Lord our God, Who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season. He reserves for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.” 25 Your iniquities have turned these things away, And your sins have withheld good from you.” (NKJV)

Continue reflecting on your life in light of the questions posed the last couple days.

Take time today to consider any broken relationships in your life that the Lord is calling you to restore. Are there any divisions between you and others that He wants to heal?

Also consider any divisions you are aware of within the wider Body of Christ. Pray for healing in and between churches and denominational groups – that we would have a unity that brings His blessing.

2 Corinthians 4:13 – With that same Spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak.

ACTION & PRAYER STEPS

ACTION:

  • Ask Holy Spirit to teach you to pray.
  • Ask Him to awaken and inspire faith in you. What does He want to do in your life and how can you begin taking steps to see that happen?
  • Ask Him to open your eyes to the possibilities around you.
  • Devote yourself to fervent fellowship with God.

PRAYER: Lord, awaken and inspire faith in my heart. Show me your plans for my life and help me begin taking steps to obey you.

17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
