Pastor Peter Kasirivu, Founder and President of Africa Renewal Ministries in Uganda – a member of the LifeLinks International family.

BEGIN PRAYER JOURNEY

Day 6: Walking in the Spirit of God

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. Romans 8:14 (NLT)

We should experience the leading of the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives, which includes our conversations. God gives us His Spirit to accompany us throughout the day. We need to show in our daily behaviour that Christ lives in us (Colossians 2:6), and that we walk by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is given to us so that we are constantly aware of Christ’s presence.

ACTION & PRAYER STEPS

ACTION:

  • Ask God every morning for the assistance of His Spirit during the day.
  • Thank God continually for our heavenly Guide, who daily renews us and enables us to walk in Christ and remain in Him.

PRAYER: Father, I resubmit myself to the leading of Your Spirit so that I will not succumb so easily to the world and the things of the flesh.

PRAYER POINTS:

Personal Renewal & Preparation

Meditate on Romans 8:26-27 today (as discussed by Pastor Peter in the video above).

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (ESV)

How might the Lord be asking you to go deeper in your intercession for others? How can you pray more in the Holy Spirit and allow the Lord to bring breakthrough through those prayers?

Ask the Lord to baptize you afresh with His Holy Spirit. If you’ve never received your own personal prayer language (tongues) ask the Lord to give you this gift so you can connect with God in this powerful way.

COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Pray the Lord guides government and church leaders as they consider the path towards the physical re-opening of church buildings. That this re-opening would be at the right moment and in the right way – neither too soon nor delayed.
  • Pray the Lord helps His church discover the new normal coming out of this COVID-19 season. What will the role of digital/online services be moving forward? How will this impact physical gatherings in the future and what should we be learning from this season?

BEGIN PRAYER JOURNEY

Day 2: The Spirit of His Son

And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father”! Galatians 4:6 (NKJV)

The Spirit that dwells in the child of God is the same Spirit that is in Christ Jesus. He teaches us to know the Father’s love and to respond with childlike love and obedience. As He was in Christ, so He is in us, the Spirit of Sonship expressing itself in a life of prayer. The Holy Spirit will manifest the life of Christ in us. The Spirit forms and manifests in us the mind and disposition of the Saviour. The Spirit also equips us for God’s service.

As the Spirit that sanctifies, He will reveal Christ to us as our sanctification. He will enable us to overcome the world and its entanglements. He will fill us with love for God’s people; for those who dislike or ignore us and with love for those that do not yet know Christ, so that we will pray for them and be ready to help them.

ACTION & PRAYER STEPS

ACTION:

  • Wait upon God to grant you the Spirit of heavenly wisdom; otherwise, you will have no impact on the world.
  • Ask every morning that God will fill you anew with His Holy Spirit so He can carry out His work of sanctification in you.

PRAYER: Thank You, Spirit of God, that You set me apart to belong to the Father. The more I think about it, the greater becomes the wonder of Your provision.

PRAYER POINTS:

Personal Renewal & Preparation

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

“The two most important days of your life are the day that you were born and the day that you find out why.” – Mark Twain

Have you found your “why” – the reason God placed you on this earth? If so, invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you today about His plans to take you deeper into this calling and destiny. How might He be asking you to take the next step of faith and obey His leading?

If you feel you haven’t completely found that “why”, ask the Holy Spirit to begin unveiling it further in your life – the Lord’s “plans to give you a hope and future”. Take time today to consider His response and journal some of the ideas He gives you – then begin to walk them out as He leads.

COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Pray the Lord would comfort those in our communities and nations who have lost loved ones during this time. That they would look to Him in their time of grief and find His salvation and life.
  • Pray for those whose lives are still in the balance with this disease. That they would sense the Lord’s touch and, ultimately, come to know Him as Saviour if they don’t already.
  • Pray for the front line health workers putting their lives at risk day after day. That they would have the Personal Protection Equipment they need, be kept from infection and, most of all, sense God’s love and grace drawing them to Himself.

ACTION:

  • Live quietly in fellowship with the Holy Spirit at all times.
  • Love Him, obey His commands, and do all you must in the Name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINTS:

Personal Renewal & Preparation

Read and meditate on John 17:1-5; 20-24

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. . .
20 “My prayer is not for them alone (his disciples). I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.”

In this passage Jesus prays for all believers that we would be unified and therefore show the world the glory modelled through the unity of Him and His Father.

This unity and harmony among believers is attractive to those watching in the world and brings glory to God.

As you meditate and pray through this passage, ask the Lord if you are holding anything in your heart towards another believer, church, or organization. Is there any attitude or offense that’s dividing you from others in the Body of Christ and holding you back from displaying the glory of Jesus to our world?

If so, take time to ask for the Lord’s forgiveness and, as prompted by the Holy Spirit, consider how you might reconcile with those you’ve fallen out with.

God will give you grace for whatever He asks you to do because the unity of His people is so important to Him.

COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Pray for the vaccine development process. That it would be accomplished with integrity, using ethical means, and that each phase would move forward with thoroughness and speed.
  • Pray for the various levels of government in our nations who are making decisions about this pandemic. That they would have God’s wisdom to know how quickly to open up businesses and gatherings.
  • Pray that unity in the Body of Christ would be protected during this time. That those with differing opinions and perspectives on lockdowns and preventative measures would still walk in love toward others who disagree. That we would have much grace for each other.

Pastor Dave Food of Runnymede Christian Fellowship in Egham, England

BEGIN PRAYER JOURNEY

Day 9: The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14.

In heaven, there is an eternal fellowship of love between the Father and the Son, through the Holy Spirit. Through the Spirit, we also have the privilege of knowing and experiencing for ourselves this fellowship of love. Additionally, as children of God we have fellowship with one another – being members of one body with a unity preserved through the Spirit.

ACTION & PRAYER STEPS

ACTION:

  • Ask God for unity in Christ’s body and for true fellowship of the Spirit.
  • Consider the great privilege of partaking in the sweet communion that the Father and Jesus enjoy. What are the qualities of such fellowship? Ask the Lord to reveal these qualities, by His Spirit, in your relationship with Him.

PRAYER: Lord, thank You for fellowship with Your Spirit, and through Your Spirit, with other members of Your body. I pray that You will make us a powerful witness for Your Name.

PRAYER POINTS:

Personal Renewal & Preparation

Read and Meditate on John 15:5-8; 16-17

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples . . .
16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other. (NIV)

During these ten days our goal has been to spend time waiting on the Lord and abiding in His presence – preparing our hearts for a fresh outpouring of His Holy Spirit.

This ongoing practice of waiting and abiding is vital if we are to remain connected with the Lord and bear fruit that lasts and glorifies the Father.

Are there new spiritual rhythms and disciplines the Holy Spirit has guided you into during this time which will help you continue abiding?

Are there any adjustments to your lifestyle or schedule He is asking you to make so you can focus more on this connection with Him?

Is the Holy Spirit calling you to another level in reading and studying the Word of God so that the Lord’s words remain in you? What might that look like?

How does it make you feel to realize the Lord has chosen you to be fruitful and then given you power in His name to fulfill that calling? How can you be more intentional to press into His purposes and put a draw on that power?

COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Pray for the emotional health of those  you sense have been negatively affected during the lockdown and isolation of the past ten weeks. That if they are believers they would experience a fresh touch of the Holy Spirit’s presence and a renewal of joy. If they are unbelievers that they would sense the Holy Spirit drawing them to Himself and would turn to the Lord to help them with their fears and anxieties – ultimately coming to know Him as Saviour.
  • Just like this virus has had worldwide impact, affecting our lifestyles and ways of life, pray there will be a worldwide move of God that will shift our hearts toward Him and bring many into the Kingdom.

DAY 10

Watch Today’s Inspirational Video

Pastor Hugh Laybourn of River City Church, Lewiston, Idaho, USA. Hugh was also part of the LifeLinks Apostolic Team for many years.

BEGIN PRAYER JOURNEY

Day 8: The Spirit Who Glorifies Jesus

He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is Mine and make it known to you. John 16:14.

Before His ascension, Jesus promised that the Spirit would come as Mediator. The Spirit would reveal Christ Himself in our hearts in His full heavenly glory. Where there is an earnest desire for the glory of Jesus in the heart of a believer, the Holy Spirit will make His presence a reality.

ACTION & PRAYER STEPS

ACTION:

  • Start living in the conscious realization that the Holy Spirit lives within you with heavenly power and enables you to witness for Him.
  • Unite with other children of God to pray for even greater things than you ever thought possible (tomorrow’s online prayer gathering is a great opportunity to do this).

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, that I can ask You to equip my loved ones, my friends and myself with the power to be loyal witnesses to You in the world.

PRAYER POINTS:

Personal Renewal & Preparation

Read and Meditate on the Following Passages

1 Corinthians 14:2
For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. (NIV)

1 Corinthians 14:4
“Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, . . .” (NIV)

1 Corinthians 14:14-15
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. (NIV)

In the video, Pastor Hugh talks about how speaking in tongues (or having a prayer language as some call it) is a powerful tool we should not forget about. The scriptures above describe how we utter spiritual mysteries, and also strengthen and build ourselves up, when we use this God-given language.

Scripture also instructs us to balance praying in tongues (praying with our spirit) with using our understanding and intellect to intercede. Both forms will ultimately be Spirit-led if we yield to His guidance.

In light of this, how might the Lord be asking you to conduct your times of prayer? Can you take up Pastor Hugh’s challenge to spend five minutes a day praying in tongues? How can you be more Spirit-led as you consider what to pray for each day?

If having a prayer language and speaking in tongues is new to you, why not ask your pastor, or another spiritual leader, to help you understand more fully and be released to use this tremendous gift.

COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Begin by thanking the Lord for what He’s doing in our hearts and lives during this pandemic season. Even though it’s challenging in many ways, we know He’s ultimately working it out for our good and producing much fruit in our lives as we press into knowing Him (Romans 8:28).
  • During the last ten days we have prayed for many things relating to the pandemic. Ask the Holy Spirit which areas of prayer He wants you to revisit and perhaps approach from another angle. He knows the perfect way to pray for any and every situation.
